Melissa’s Story

In Loving Memory of Melissa Charter-Yoscovitch (1982–2025), my beautiful sister.

Melissa Charter-Yoscovitch was a loving, creative, and compassionate woman whose warmth left an imprint on everyone who knew her. Born and raised in Nevada, she had a natural gift for bringing light to others. She earned her certificate in cosmetology, using that talent to help people feel beautiful inside and out.

Her heart for service ran deep. Through years of work with Sierra Home Healthcare, Melissa cared for older adults and veterans with patience, dignity, and kindness. She connected easily, made people laugh, and gave more of herself than she ever kept.

Like many, Melissa also faced the daily challenges of mental-health struggles—depression, trauma, and the quiet battles no one sees. She fought with courage and grace, even as she continued to care for others. In 2025, while preparing to begin a new chapter of her life, she lost that battle.

Melissa’s story is heartbreaking, but it also serves as a call to awareness. Depression and alcohol can create a dangerous cycle that clouds judgment and deepens despair. These conditions are not signs of weakness; they are medical and emotional illnesses that need consistent treatment and community support. Her passing reminds us how vital it is to reach out, to talk, and never to let shame or silence stand in the way of help.

At Charter Recovery, Melissa’s memory fuels our mission to break the stigma surrounding mental illness and addiction. Her story drives every effort we make to help others find stability, recovery, and a sense of purpose.

Melissa will always be remembered for her humor, loyalty, and fierce love for her family. Her legacy is one of kindness, strength, and grace—a reminder to love deeply, listen closely, and care for one another and a stark reminder to always be there for others. Don't worry about the details or try to figure anything out, JUST BE THERE.
